Meeting Minutes
Foodbank of Northcentral Arkansas
9/10/26
Chair Mary O’Shields called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m.
Pledge of Allegiance: Glenda Huffine led the group in the pledge.
Minutes: Called for any changes to August minutes. Called for approval of minutes. Laurie Shockley made the motion. Glenda Huffine 2nd and all were in favor. August minutes were accepted.
Treasury Report: Paulette Riley
As of the end of August 2026 and with ACT Blue contributions the ending balance is $4810.35. Remember to donate as we continue to support democratic candidates on the ballot for 2026 and in the future.
Chair Update: Mary O’Shields
Mary introduced the committee chairs and asked for new members to raise their hands. Remember all are welcome.
Mary discussed the current balance in the treasury and the amount going out for fundraising and for local and state candidates. We work primarily on donations, so that continues to be an important source of revenue. We are so grateful for your donations to support candidates that want to make a change.
Mary spoke about the upcoming fair. We will have a float/truck in the parade, do a 50/50 raffle as well as a raffle for a membership to the aquatic center.
Speaker: Dr. Terri Yarbrough-Green, Candidate for US House of Representatives District 1
We welcomed Dr.Green back to Baxter County. She previously spoke to the group before the primary election. Dr.Green continues to grow and excite the crowd as she travels the state encouraging people that there is hope and to get out and vote.
Her major concerns at this point and first points of business upon entering office would be reversing medicaid and medicare cuts and pushing a farm relief bill ahead. These two things are greatly needed for the state of Arkansas. Her three tenets are economy, accountability and honest democracy.
She is concerned that the people in our state cannot afford health insurance. Mothers are dying in childbirth-prenatal care is too expensive or too far away. All parts of the body should be covered by insurance-mental, dental, vision and traditional health and no one should go bankrupt to pay for medical bills.

Announcements/Open Discussion:
Marketing manager Kirstin Johnson discussed our continued social media growth. Kirstin also reported a growth in people signing up to volunteer, which is great! If you want to volunteer and haven’t signed up yet, reach out at baxtercountydemcommittee@gmail.com
Mary reminded the group that we have Democratic Party of Baxter County t-shirts available for $20.
Mary and group discussed the idea of providing rides to polls and what avenues might be helpful in getting the word out. If you have anymore ideas, please let us know.
Yard signs are available at meetings.
There will be a all candidate forum on Tuesday October 6th from 3-7. All local and state candidates have been invited.
